PerspectAbility is a local non-profit with a big mission – to bring neuroinclusive employment, transition services and housing to Northwest Arkansas!  

We are excited to plan our very first pilot class for PerspectAbility Academy for the 2025-2026 school year.  Our first Educator for the program will be given the framework for success through the use of an established 2-year curriculum, while also being tasked to bring their own passion and expertise to the role in order to support students, expand curriculum into everyday learning strategies and forge deep and meaningful connections between students and the community.  This position is expected to maintain full-time hours during the school year, with typical school holiday breaks.  Instruction will take place in person for a class size of 4 to 6 students.  Specifics regarding schedule and classroom location are to be determined.

JOB SUMMARY

PerspectAbility is seeking a Full-Time Lead classroom teacher to launch our new Adult Transition Academy.  This person must have experience in teaching neurodiverse learners, as well as a strong background in teaching in a diverse learning environment. The teacher will be responsible for the implementation and teaching of a comprehensive cross curricular program that includes courses in reading, finance, health, nutrition, and other life and executive functioning skills. This position will require the teacher to be self-motivated and able to work and plan alone while aligning with the mission and vision of PerspectAbility and future expansion of the program. Position to begin summer 2025.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree and/or Education Specialist Credential strongly preferred
  • Current Teaching License preferred; Experience in the development and implementation of curriculum required
  • Comfort and confidence working both independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Experience with transition-aged youth, vocational training, or adult service

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Curriculum and Instruction 

  • Incorporate evidence-based best practices, sensory strategies, and student-centered teaching into all aspects of instruction. 
  • Plan and lead engaging learning experiences both in the classroom and in the community.
  • Be innovative in daily lessons and incorporate technology and application in real-life situations as much as possible. 
  • Maintain strong, measurable, attainable, and accurate student and program goals aligned to lesson and module goals as well as the overall program and include the student growth throughout the year. 
  • Keep reflective notes for improving the curriculum and program to share with PerspectAbility and others throughout the year with the goal of expanding the program in the future. 

Program Leadership and Development

  • Lead the Academy during this launch year as the sole classroom teacher and program developer for young adult neurodiverse students. 
  • Work with PerspectAbility staff to identify and nurture partnerships with community organizations and businesses for job placements, life skills instruction, and community-based learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with students and others that may include classroom aides, PerspectAbility staff, parents, and community members on measurable life goals for the program.  
  • Host parent education sessions, distribute relevant resources, and coordinate visits to adult programs and facilities.
  • Respond promptly and compassionately to student, parent, or staff questions or concerns.
  • Host parent/community education sessions, distribute relevant resources, and work to incorporate others in the learning that are not in the current 2025-2026 cohort.
