1. What is RISE Academy?
RISE (Real-world Independence and Skills for Employment) Academy is a post-high school program designed to support young adults with disabilities or learning differences in developing independent living, employment, and self-advocacy skills. The curriculum focuses on real-world readiness through hands-on experiences. The program is run by PerspectAbility, an NWA non-profit organization that exists to create opportunities for neurodivergent adults.
2. Who is this program for?
The program is designed for young adults who have completed high school and who are ready for the next step towards independent adulthood. If you would like to discuss how this program may help you or your student, please email info@perspectability.org to set-up an info meeting.
3. What is Learn4Independence?
Learn4Independence is an established comprehensive curriculum that is being used successfully at similar schools across the country. It is developed for transition-age students focusing on:
- Daily living skills
- Career exploration & readiness
- Financial literacy
- Social & communication skills
- Self-advocacy & goal setting
- Community navigation
The curriculum is highly interactive and designed to promote independence in all areas of adult life.
4. What does the program cost?
The program costs $5,000 per semester, with a total of four semesters over two academic years (Fall and Spring semesters).
5. Are payment plans available?
Yes. Flexible payment plans are available to help families manage tuition. Monthly and semester-based payment options can be arranged through the PerspectAbility office.
6. What is included in the tuition?
Tuition covers:
- All instruction and materials for the Learn4Independence curriculum
- On-campus workshops and activities
- Community-based instruction and field experiences
- Staff support and coaching
- Access to facilities and technology
Note: Transportation, meals, and personal supplies are not included.
7. What is the schedule like?
Students attend programming during the week. The schedule includes a mix of classroom instruction, community-based learning, job site visits, and independent practice. The school calendar and hours of instruction are expected to be released this June.
8. Is housing available?
At this time, the program does not provide residential housing. Students must commute or arrange local living accommodations. Educational goals can incorporate and build upon independent living experience. Guidance may be provided for housing resources in the area.
9. How do I apply?
Applications are open for the Fall 2025 start date. The application process is intended to include:
- A completed application form
- School transcripts and IEP/504 documentation (if applicable)
- Letter(s) of recommendation and student statement (letter, essay or video)
- Family/student meeting

10. Is financial aid available?
PerspectAbility is constantly seeking out donations to further support the academy, and we hope to offer needs-based scholarships in the very near future.
If you or your student needs this assistance, please proceed with the enrollment application and note financial needs in the “additional comments” section. You will be contacted by PerspectAbility for any further information that may be needed and to discuss next steps.
11. Can students work while enrolled?
Yes, part-time work is encouraged and can be incorporated into the student’s learning plan. Job coaching support will be available throughout the program and will become an area of focus during year two.
